What is kundli matching (Guna Milan)?
Kundli matching — also called kundli milan, horoscope matching or Guna Milan — compares two birth charts to judge compatibility for marriage. The classical method, Ashtakoota Milan, looks at eight aspects (kootas) of the two Moons — their signs and nakshatras — and gives up to 36 points (gunas) in total.

The total is not everything. Nadi dosha (0 of 8 points) and Bhakoot dosha (0 of 7) are traditionally weighed on their own, and many families also compare Manglik dosha: two Manglik people, or two non-Manglik people, are considered a balanced pair.

Nadi dosha arises when both people share the same Nadi — Adi, Madhya or Antya, decided by the Moon's nakshatra. It scores 0 of 8 points. Classical texts give cancellations, for example when both share the same Moon sign but different nakshatras.
